Overview

Manages all activities related to operations and development of company products by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors on the PM shift. This position will be a Key member of the Plant Leadership Team with integral role in developing and continuously improving the culture.

Responsibilities

  • Meet or exceed Piston Automotive goals for:  Safety, Productivity, Quality and Continuous Improvement.
  • Strong ability to mentor/develop/coach Production Supervisors and Team Leaders.
  • Support PM Crew (B or C) to ensure cost targets are achieved (staffing, overtime)
  • Drive system adherence, including TS 16949 requirements.
  • Creates an environment that encourages active participation of all team members.
  • Potential to cover the Operations Manager role as required.
  • Creates/sustains a safe work environment throughout the entire plant facility.
  • Develops and maintains manufacturing operations business plans to include all program requirements, labor hours, cycle, production costs, and image.
  • Ensures all operational processes and quality procedures are followed.
  • Ensures all established costs, quality, and delivery commitments are met. 
  • Coordinates manufacturing activities with all other functions of the organization and suppliers to obtain optimum production and utilization of human resources, machines, and equipment.
  • Reviews production and operating reports and directs the resolution of operational, manufacturing, and maintenance problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Performs administrative activities associated with the effective management of shop operations, including compiling, storing, and retrieving production data for reports.
  • Determines responsibilities of assigned organization and staff positions to accomplish business objectives.
  • Trains and ensures all assigned employees are aware of and comply with company, government, and customer policies, procedures, and regulations.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manage PM Crew (B and/or C) of 50+ employees or more.

Qualifications

 EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor's degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university; and/or eight years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

 

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports, and legal documents.  Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or members of the business community. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.

 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.

 

REASONING ABILITY: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • None 

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  • Strong leadership skills, independent thinking, strong organizational and planning abilities and excellent analytical and problem solving skills are essential. 
  • Excellent communication skills written and verbal, experience as a change agent, problem solving methodologies (8D, 5 Why, etc.) and ability to work with diverse team at all levels within the organization.
  • Intermediate skills in MS Word and MS Excel.

OTHER QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience leading 50+ people in an assembly operation. Experience with ILVS/JIT/Broadcast environments.
  • Experience with Lean Manufacturing concepts (Toyota Production System, etc.), and knowledge of TS 16949 quality process.
  • Experience working in non-union and union environments.
  • Working in an automotive setting is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk to hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Depth perception which is three-dimensional vision or the ability to judge distances and spatial relationships is required for this position.
