Overview

The Vice President of Finance at the Piston Group is a senior executive responsible for overseeing the organization’s financial management. This role involves managing financial planning, accounting practices, and relationships with stakeholders such as banks, shareholders, and the financial community. The VP Finance is part of the executive team and reports to the Board of Directors. The position focuses on handling daily financial operations while ensuring the company’s financial strategies support its overall goals. Using data and insights, this leader helps maintain the company’s competitiveness and long-term stability.

 

Responsibilities

  • Manage the Accounting and Finance departments, ensuring efficient workflows and alignment with organizational goals.

  • Maintain strong, ongoing business relationships with banking, legal, insurance, and accounting firms to support the organization’s financial operations.

  • Oversee and direct key financial functions, including treasury, budgeting, auditing, tax compliance, accounting, long-range forecasting, and insurance activities.

  • Provide leadership to the Director of Finance in developing and implementing procedures and computer systems to maintain accurate records and ensure robust accounting controls.

  • Supervise the Director of Finance in managing the organization's funds, securities, and assets to safeguard financial integrity.

  • Appraise the organization’s financial position by preparing and issuing periodic reports on financial stability, liquidity, and growth prospects.

  • Direct and coordinate the establishment of comprehensive budget programs to align with strategic objectives.

  • Analyze, consolidate, and oversee cost accounting procedures alongside other statistical and routine financial reporting processes.

  • Conduct studies on general economic, business, and financial conditions to assess their impact on organizational policies and operations.

  • Analyze operational issues affecting functional groups and determine their financial implications to guide decision-making.

  • Evaluate and recommend business partnering opportunities that align with organizational goals and enhance financial performance.

  • Establish and maintain effective communication with stockholders, financial institutions, and the investment community to foster trust and transparency.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 12 years of progressive experience in finance, accounting, or related fields with leadership responsibilities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field is required; a Master’s degree (M.A., MBA, or equivalent) is highly preferred.
  • CPA or CMA certification is highly desired but not required. Alternatively, strong public accounting experience is strongly preferred.
  • Proven ability to negotiate complex financial transactions and contracts effectively.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present financial strategies clearly to executives, boards, and stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with experience managing teams and implementing efficient processes.
  • Advanced analytical skills to address challenges and develop innovative solutions.
  • Expertise in creating policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure compliance and efficiency.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel for financial modeling, reporting, and documentation.
  • Ability to work independently in a fast-paced setting while managing multiple priorities.
  • Strong multitasking abilities with attention to deadlines.
  • Proactive in identifying process inefficiencies and recommending improvements.
  • Confident in delivering presentations on complex topics to executives or boards of directors.
