Overview

The Assistant Plant Manager is a critical thinker with independent thinking skills who will support the Plant Manager in directing and managing all plant operations. This role has responsibilities across Production, Maintenance, Quality, and other production-related activities within the site. The Assistant Plant Manager helps manage plant employees and contributes to their performance management, collaborating with other functional leaders. The ideal candidate will possess strong organizational and planning skills, as well as excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in planning and monitoring short and long-term budgets to ensure the plant meets financial commitments
  • Support the coordination of plant activities with departmental managers to achieve manufacturing objectives efficiently and cost-effectively
  • Help implement cost-effective control systems for capital, operating expenditures, manpower, and wages
  • Assist in managing capital asset maintenance
  • Support the establishment and monitoring of plant performance for production and quality standards
  • Aid in controlling and minimizing overtime, premium freight, and repair expenses
  • Contribute to maintaining plant facilities and equipment, recommending replacements or adjustments when necessary
  • Assist in providing leadership and training to accomplish company goals and objectives safely
  • Support the implementation and maintenance of preventative maintenance programs
  • Promote shop floor organization and plant cleanliness among personnel
  • Help ensure compliance with legal requirements, company safety procedures, and health and safety regulations

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in an assistant management role
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Engineering, or a related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in a union environment
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience leading salaried employees
  • At least 5 years of experience with:
    • Lean Manufacturing Principles
    • 5-S
    • Kanban
    • Kaizen
    • Poka-Yoke
    • Six Sigma
    • Root Cause Analysis

 

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

  • Automotive industry experience
  • Six Sigma Green Belt certification (working towards Black Belt)
  • Lean Manufacturing certification
