Overview

The Vice President of Engineering at Piston Automotive plays a pivotal role in advancing engineering systems, standards, and technologies, directly aligning with the strategic priorities of the organization. This executive position oversees the Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Team which encompasses Manufacturing, Industrial, Controls, Packaging Engineering, Cost Estimating, and Facilities Construction Management. The VP of Engineering is critical in fostering technological advancement, scalability through automation, and the seamless execution of new business ventures, positioning themselves as a senior technical leader in partnership with Sales to expand business opportunities.

Responsibilities

 

  • Formulate and execute long-term strategic objectives and performance standards for the engineering department, ensuring they align with the broader business goals and are achieved within budget and time-frame. 
  • Develop and implement tactical plans to meet annual operational goals, including new business execution, continuous improvement initiatives, quality objectives, and profitability targets. 
  • Enhance and continuously improve engineering and manufacturing systems by adopting industry best practices, focusing on reliability, flexibility, and scalability to support strategic growth. 
  • Manage and oversee technical budgets, including annual Engineering Department and Cap-Ex budgets, and project budgets for all new business awards, ensuring fiscal discipline and effective resource allocation. 
  • Serve as an escalation point for technical issues within the department, actively resolving escalated issues, particularly those raised by customers, thereby maintaining and strengthening customer relationships. 
  • Assist in the negotiation and management of key supplier relationships, enhancing the procurement of essential services and materials necessary for organizational operations. 

Qualifications

 

  • Educational background with a related Bachelor's degree, an MBA or Master's degree in Engineering is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, inspire, and maintain effective working relationships with highly skilled engineering teams.
  • Extensive experience in senior engineering management, preferably with the automotive industry, with a strong grasp of both manual and automated assembly systems and technologies.
  • A robust understanding of assembly requirements across all Automotive Component Systems - Body, Trim, Chassis, Power-train, Interior and Electrical Systems.
  • Proven track record of strategic planning and execution, with the ability to travel as required to support direct reports and project launches.

  • Expertise in Industrial Safety Standards and the strategic development of supplies to support future growth.
  • Exceptional negotiation skills and the ability to manage complex supplier and customer relationships.
  • Strong project management skills, capable of leading large-scale projects and initiatives efficiently and effectively.
