Overview

The Materials Manager will play a pivotal role in optimizing our supply chain and ensuring the seamless flow of materials to support production and customer demands. You will oversee all aspects of materials management, from planning and procurement to storage, inventory control, and distribution. This leadership position requires a strong understanding of supply chain principles, proven experience in materials management, and the ability to supervise and mentor a team of purchasing and warehouse staff. 

Responsibilities

Supply Chain Management:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive supply chain strategies, including sourcing, negotiation and vendor management.
  • Conduct risk assessments and develop mitigation plans for potential supply chain disruptions.
  • Analyze and optimize transportation routes and logistics to reduce freight costs and improve delivery times.
  • Stay informed about industry trends and implement innovative solutions to enhance supply chain efficiency.

 

Materials Management:

  • Lead materials planning and scheduling to ensure timely availability of materials for production.
  • Develop and implement inventory control measures to minimize stockouts and optimize inventory levels.
  • Identify and implement strategies to reduce material aging.
  • Oversee the accurate maintenance of the inventory control system.
  • Manage freight percent to sales and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Responsible for managing our materials warehouse, safety, coordinating the receipt and shipment of products, warehouse management and FIFO principles.

 

Team Leadership:

  • Supervise and mentor the Purchasing and Warehouse team, providing coaching and development opportunities.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing team environment.
  • Conduct performance evaluations and implement performance improvement plans.

Additional Duties:

  • Manage and improve delivery ratings for all customers year-over-year.
  • Oversee warehouse operations, including material handling and system improvements.
  • Manage annual inventory and all related recordkeeping.
  • Ensure efficient import/export operations and timely resolution of any issues.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Engineering, or a
    related field.
  •  7-10 years of experience in Supply Chain Management, Materials Management, or Purchasing/Buyer positions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills.
  • Proven ability to lead and motivate a team.
  • Experience with manufacturing environments and lean principles
  • Bilingual Spanish/English is a plus.

 

Reporting Positions:

 

  • This position will oversee two key reporting positions: Purchasing/Buyer: Responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing materials according to specifications and budget constraints.
  • Purchasing/Buyer Manager: Leads and manages the Purchasing team, oversees purchasing processes, and implements cost-saving strategies.
